WORKING
WITH FAMILIES
During my years of work as a marriage and family therapist, I have watched so many couples/families have difficulty during their divorce process. I have observed many couples in the collaborative process commit to obtaining and maintaining positive communication skills. I always tell couples they should be proud of their willingness to develop these skills during a time of huge transition. My role in the process is working as a neutral mental health professional as part of the collaborative team. I utilize my skills to help the process itself work as efficiently as possible by attending all joint meetings to facilitate communication amongst all participants. In addition, I help with any of the emotions that can and will arise during the meetings. When there are children involved, I work with the parents to help them develop effective co-parenting skills. |
